Venue & Travel

  • Venue

The conference will take place in the seaside city of Viana do Castelo (slightly north of Porto), characterized by its fishing industry with a strong tradition in the salting and the drying of cod. The city is endowed with a rich natural and cultural heritage and has as its main feature an attractive main square with the architectural landscape dating back to the 16th and 17th century.

Located at the top of the hill and overlooking the city is the Santa Luzia basilica, which National Geographic magazine refers to as one of the most magnificent sceneries in the entire world. Amongst its other features is the iron bridge designed by the famous Eiffel House of Paris.

Contemporary architecture is slowly contributing to turning this seaside city into a design destination, with Wallpaper magazine classifying recently constructed buildings as an “icon” for the city and referring to it as an Architectural Mecca.

The Castle of Santiago da Barra is a fort located on the bank of the Lima River and facing the Atlantic Ocean. Since the 16thcentury this fort has protected the city from invaders. This castle will be the venue for the opening session on Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday, the conference venue will be the School of Technology and Management, facing the Atlantic Ocean.
